Side Hustles During a Pandemic
In this video, I cover 5 side hustles that you can do during a pandemic. These are ways to make extra money during quarantine.
During this pandemic, schools have been closed and many students have been participating in digital learning. Kids of all ages now have to interact with their teachers and learn in a totally new online environment.
This has left many kids in a place where they are not getting the personalized attention that they need to learn. Many parents don’t have the time and sometimes the skill set to take the place of their kid’s teachers and help them.
For this reason, it is the perfect time to start a side hustle tutoring. I’ve mentioned tutoring in some of my past side hustle blog posts but the need is now greater.
You can go far beyond teaching kids in other countries how to speak English. If you have a background in education you can teach kids of all ages in all subjects.
This is a great option for college students or even high school students who excel in certain subjects. You can tutor kids in elementary or middle school and make extra money on the side.
Here are a few sites that provide a platform for tutors to work and make money online.
This is a side hustle that I think many people overlook. I’ve been suggesting this to my nieces and nephews for years.
There are many people out there that need help with all types of shopping. There are people who don’t have transportation, there are elderly people, and there are people who are just busy, and paying someone to shop will just help them to get things done.
This is more relevant now during the COVID 19 pandemic which has resulted in lockdowns and social distancing. Many people would just rather not shop for themselves. Especially since you really have to know when to go to certain stores to get certain items.
You can make money doing all types of shopping for people. And it doesn’t have to be just groceries. I want you to think bigger than just working for Instacart (which is also a good option).
Think of being truly a “Personal” shopper. Here’s what I mean.
I love Insacart and one time I got a really good shopper that communicated with me well and just made it a super easy experience. At that point, I wished that I could request him anytime I need my shopping done.
What if I could hire him to do all of my shopping?
He could do all of my shopping, no matter the store. It would be like having my own personal assistant.
Expanding on the personal shopper option we have delivering goods. Both prior to the pandemic and now that we are in it, people and businesses need help with deliveries.
With the exposure that anyone can get using social media, I am more of a fan of branching out on your own with providing your services, but you can also do this with well-known companies such as Amazon and Uber.
People want all sorts of things delivered to them these days. Ranging from groceries to patio furniture. And you can be the one that helps them with it.
Freelancing is another side hustle that is in more demand during the pandemic. It covers such a wide range of options for you if you want to make money outside of working for someone else.
You can freelance doing any number of things and chances are you can take the skills from your former job and do those things on your own as a freelancer. For example, if you were formerly an office manager or administrative assistant, you can freelance as a virtual assistant.
You can work from home and offer services such as managing calendars, managing emails, answering phones, or scheduling travel. The cool thing is, you can do pretty much anything that you would do in an office setting from your home.
You can also freelance as a writer, graphics designer, bookkeeper, photographer, transcriptionist, and so on.
Here are a few things that you should do to start making money freelancing:
- Choose what type of work you want to do
- Get a clear list of your services
- Determine who you ideal client is
- Come up with your prices
- Get a method to market yourself and showcase your services
- Market yourself (social media, up work, fivver)
- Start working and leveling up your skillset
- Adjust your prices as you gain more experience and have more satisfied clients that will provide testimonials to your work
Teaching Anything You Know
This side hustle is my favorite. Most people have something that they know how to do really well and they take those skills for granted.
Stop and think about what you like to do a lot or what you get compliments on and teach people those things.
Let’s say you love Yoga and you have taken so many classes that during this quarantine you have been during yoga every day without any instruction. You can start a side hustle where you teach people yoga online. You can start a YouTube channel or hold paid virtual yoga classes.
Here’s another example.
You are really good at setting up computers and other equipment. People are always amazed at how you have your house or apartment hooked up with music, wireless devices, and your home office is flawless.
You can help people set up their work from home spaces. Many people are working from home and they still haven’t figured out how to get the perfect audio for zoom calls, or how to set up a green screen so people can’t see that they are working from their garage.
And here’s one more example.
You are a mom that had been feeding a family of 5 for years. Nothing has changed for you in this area because of Covid-19. Everyone loves your cooking and you manage to serve these amazing meals on a tight budget.
You can teach other moms how to cook and do it on a budget. Just like the Yoga example, you can start a YouTube channel or even just hold private virtual cooking classes.
These are just a few examples. You can make money teaching anything that you know will solve a problem for someone else.
And let’s face it, during this time everyone is facing a lot of new problems that we didn’t have before.
These ideas are only as good as you make them. Pick one that works for you and start making it happen.
